Alliance Française de Newcastle has been hosting events since 1948. We are a lively group dedicated to enjoying French and Francophone languages. We meet regularly and you can choose either in-person or online.

Alliance Française

The Alliance Française was founded in Paris in 1883. It is an internationally known, non-profit making organisation, with its headquarters in the French capital. Its worldwide governing body is the Fondation Alliance Française.

    Ernest Hébert was born in Grenoble in 1817 He was a French academic painter who was mainly self-taught although he took lessons in Paris while studying Law. His first success came with Le Tasse en prison, which depicts. a prisoner receiving a visitor in his cell.

    Although France appears to have been a place of asylum and refuge for European Jews in the 19th & 20th centuries, we should be aware that the Jewish community was present in France a long time before this, even before France existed as a nation. The Jewish community contributed to the establishment.
